Head of Digital
About the position
Imagine joining an organisation at the forefront of the energy transition, where every decision shapes the electricity grid of the future. At System Operations, transformation is reality. The GAAS platform sits at the centre of this change, acting as the digital brain that will eventually manage the grid autonomously. Here, innovation meets scale, and your work impacts millions.
As Head of Digital, you play a decisive role in this transformation. You define the strategic direction of GAAS, translate emerging technologies into practical solutions, and lead an international team of 125 professionals from 37 nationalities, organised into seven specialised teams. Your focus spans strategy, technology, and people; turning insights and energy trends into a platform that is scalable, stable, and future-proof.
You collaborate closely with partners such as Siemens, fellow managers within System Operations, and across the energy chain. You guide multidisciplinary teams, build alignment, and ensure GAAS in Alliander’s ambitions. With clarity and structured decision-making, you navigate a complex environment defined by rapid innovation and international collaboration.
In this role, you prioritise people. You bring calm and clarity to a fast-growing, diverse environment. You offer consistent one-on-one attention to a highly skilled, international team, ensuring people feel heard, valued, and supported. Through visible leadership, transparent communication, and investment in talent development, you create an inclusive culture that strengthens collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth.
System Operations is smart, committed, and entrepreneurial. Agile ways of working create space for initiative and creativity, while the international team offers unique opportunities to grow. Operating at the intersection of technology, society, and innovation, you help build a reliable, sustainable, and future-ready energy system. In this role, you don’t just lead digital transformation; you shape the grid of tomorrow.
Your profile
- Demonstrable experience in managing multidisciplinary teams in digitalisation, software development, IT/OT architectures, or similar high-tech domains.

- Strong in strategic and tactical decision-making, with a track record in realising scalable, sustainable, and future-proof solutions.
- Excellent at connecting various stakeholders, from management to technical experts and partners.
- Entrepreneurial, analytical and decisive, with the ability to provide direction in an environment full of technological innovation and organisational growth.
About the organisation
Alliander is a powerful group of companies working together to build the energy system of the future. Alliander ensures reliable energy distribution every day. Qirion develops smart, sustainable technologies and infrastructure. Kenter provides state-of-the-art metering and energy management solutions. Meanwhile, Alliander’s start-ups are driving innovation in electric mobility, new energy markets, and sustainable area development.
With over 90,000 km of electricity grid and 40,000 km of gas grid, Alliander supplies energy to over three million households and businesses, making it one of the three largest network operators in the Netherlands.
The System Operations team manages and operates the electricity and gas networks, ensuring stability and reliability. The team leverages digital tools and innovative solutions to optimise network performance and supports the energy transition by enabling connections for renewable energy and emerging technologies such as electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
The task ahead is enormous: the energy system must be rapidly digitalised, expanded and professionalised to enable the energy transition. At the heart of this transformation lies the GAAS platform (Grid as a Service); the digital brain of the future electricity grid. GAAS autonomously manages capacity and collaborates closely with leading partners such as Siemens.
