About the position
Neste's Rotterdam Refinery on the Maasvlakte is one of the most strategically important assets in the global renewable fuels industry — a 24/7 operation producing up to 1.4 million tonnes of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel per year. The site is entering a new phase: technically strong foundations are in place, and the focus is now firmly on building the performance discipline and cost rigour that will sustain long-term success.
The Head of Maintenance is a central figure in that journey. Reporting to the Vice President NL Refining and sitting on the Leadership Team Netherlands, this role carries full accountability for asset integrity, lifecycle performance, and the entire maintenance work process — from planning and scheduling through to turnaround execution. You lead a department of approximately 75 people across planning, inspection, warehouse, maintenance support, and execution, supported by a significant contractor workforce.
Shifting the balance from reactive to preventive and predictive maintenance is a central priority, as is building a turnaround organisation that is genuinely fit for purpose. You bring structure and technical discipline to a team with real capability, and translate the broader site ambition into a clear vision that people can understand, believe in, and organise their work around.
Your profile
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline
- Experience in oil refining, the process or petrochemical industry
- Deep, hands-on expertise in maintenance management, asset integrity, and turnaround governance
- Proven track record in people leadership: building team confidence, raising standards, and creating clarity in complex organisations
- Financially disciplined, with a structured approach to cost transparency and lifecycle cost management
- Fluent in Dutch and English
